I recently attended the #workshop "Sustainable Future: Disruptive Technologies Applied to the Aerospace Industry", presented by Airbus, at the ACM-W Europe womENcourage 2024 event. It was an amazing experience, and I was thrilled to be able to contribute actively. In the photo, you can see me presenting one of the solutions I proposed during the workshop. My group was presented with the challenge of optimizing the wings of an airplane, and I suggested a biomimetic approach. #Biomimicry is the science of applying nature-inspired designs in human engineering and invention to solve human problems. Specifically, I proposed replicating the serrated shape of humpback whale fins, known for their excellent hydrodynamics. This design has been tested on a wind turbine blade demonstrator, showing significant efficiency improvements. However, it's important to note that this solution also presents manufacturing challenges due to its shape complexity. Overall, the workshop was a fantastic opportunity to explore innovative solutions and engage with industry experts. I look forward to applying these insights in future projects! #Innovation #Biomimicry #Aerospace #Engineering #ProfessionalDevelopment #Airbus #womencourage #UC3M

🌟 Exciting News from the iFACT-MP Team! 🌟 📢Happy to share our latest factsheet, showcasing the impactful benefits the iFACT-MP project will deliver! ♻ Sustainability: Iodine is a sustainable choice for green propellant in satellite missions because it can be efficiently recycled from industrial waste with minimal energy use, meeting pharmaceutical standards, reducing environmental impact and supporting closed-loop systems. 🛡 Strategic: The project aims to ensure Europe's self-reliance in space access and technology, supporting strategic autonomy, due to its fully European supply chain, ownership of essential patents, and independence from non-European technologies. This approach safeguards the investment, budget, and commitment of the participants. 📡 Excellence: The project brings together leading European research institutions and experts to develop iodine thrusters, electride emitters, and space-grade components, along with advanced testing and diagnostics for this technology. 💶 Economic: The rapid increase and unpredictability of xenon prices have created a need for alternative propellants in space missions. While krypton has been a common alternative, using iodine as a propel, it offers significant cost and volume advantages, providing a competitive edge for European space industries. 📈 Performance: A unique iodine feeding system will be developed according to flight standards, focusing on design, verification, heat control and error handling. A test facility capable of testing iodine thrusters up to 5 kW will also be established, supporting further iodine electric propulsion (EP) development in Europe. Stay tuned for more updates as we push the boundaries of space technology! 🚀✨https://ifact-mp.eu/ Our highly experienced #team : Project Coordinator: Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus Friedrichshafen) Partners: Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus Toulouse & Elancourt) | Fraunhofer IKTS | Aerospazio Tecnologie s.r.l. | Università di Pisa | EASN Technology Innovation Services #iFACTMP #SpaceTechnology #Innovation #SatelliteSolutions #ElectricPropulsion
